Rural-based, with experience traveling and working across the world and inland Australia, Melanie’s life took a challenging turn after the loss of her husband to cancer, leaving her a widow and single mum. Melanie also endured the sudden deaths of both a close friend and a family member. Soon after all that heartache, her mother underwent major emergency open-heart surgery, spending 10 days in a coma.

Amidst these adversities, Melanie decided it was time to make changes—not just for herself and her family, but for her community. With a deep love and respect for the farming community and the enduring spirit of Australians living and working in the bush, she envisioned Everyday Australians as a way to celebrate and support them. The idea was written down on a piece of paper and stuck to the fridge for months before the path to bring it to life became clear, along with the confidence to take it on.
